This Is Zonta
Zonta International Is...
- an international service organization of business and professional women working to improve the legal, political, economic, health, and educational status of women, everywhere. Since its 1919 inception in Buffalo, NY, the organization has grown to include clubs in 67 countries. Through fellowships and scholarships, Zontians support women pursuing degrees in aerospace-related sciences and engineering, business, and public affairs. Z and Golden Z clubs, sponsored by local Zonta clubs, develop leadership skills, promote career exploration, and encourage volunteerism among high school, college and university members.
- a non-governmental organization (NGO), maintaining consultative status with various United Nations agencies. In conjunction with the Zonta International Strategies to Prevent Violence Against Women (ZISVAW) program and such agencies as UNICEF, UNIFEM, and UNESCO, Zonta has provided funds for such projects as: microcredit and health education for HIV/AIDS-affected women in Niger, the Women's Learning Center and Health Clinic with the Afghan Institute of Learning, anti-trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina, eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus in Nepal, and housing and rehabilitation for women victims of violence in Syria.

- comprised of 19 clubs located throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Nova Scotia, Canada.
- honored to have recognized three clubs in western Massachusetts with the 2007 Governor's Award for Overall Excellence in Service.
- proud to have three of its members currently serving at the international level.
- delighted that two of its scholarship recipients were selected to receive international awards.
- involved in local service by partnering with such organizations as the Rape Response Services of Maine, Spruce Run, Womancare/Aegis, Good Samaritan, Lund Home, Ozanam Place, Caps for Kids, The Salvation Army, Greater Boston Food Bank, Dress for Success, and Metro Immigration Settlement Association of Canada.
- devoted to raising funds by hosting spelling bees, garden tours, fashion shows, house tours and craft fairs, etc.
- dedicated to advocate for legislation of human trafficking as a crime, ending violence in Darfur, and in support of the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act.

- located in Bangor and York Cty, Maine
- dedicated to local service by collaborating with Bangor Police Dept, Greater Bangor Homeless Shelter, Hammond St. Senior Center, Challenger Learning Center.
- dedicated to international service by collaborating with the Haitian Health Foundation, the Ghana Health Mission, Ghana Library, the nursing program at Ghana University, etc.
- concerned about domestic violence within their communities. Clubs host conferences that spread the word about domestic violence in various settings and by lobbying for a bill criminalizing human trafficking in Maine.
- engaged in raising funds by various means, such as hosting a large craft fair, perennial sale and basket bingo.
- proud to support local high school, college, and non-traditional students by awarding in excess of $14,000 in financial support during 2006-2008.
